Thirty-three miles, forty-two minutes, and a saloon at seventy-one pounds. Those three figures are unusually good for a London hotel to Stansted, and they come from one fact: Junction 4 of the M11, where the motorway begins, sits 5.6 miles from the hotel entrance. The same chain's Kensington property is forty-five miles and an hour and seventeen minutes from the same airport. There is also a catch worth knowing before you plan an early departure, and it involves the DLR station next door.
The M11 begins 5.6 miles away. Most of this journey is motorway from very near the start.
Nothing to pay en route. No Congestion Charge in E6, and no river crossing because both ends sit north of the Thames.
£71 to £240 fixed, saloon through sixteen seats, forecourt levy already inside.
The DLR is a trap for early flights. First service around 06:54. Leave at four in the morning and it is not running.
Beckton to Stansted Airport in 42 Minutes: Why
Most London hotels are a long way from Stansted because the airport sits well out in Essex on the north-eastern side, and most hotels are nowhere near it. This one does.
| From | Distance | Drive time | Saloon |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beckton, E6 | 33 miles | 42 minutes | £71 |
| Kensington, SW5 | 45 miles | 1h 17m | £87 |
| Difference | 12 miles | 35 minutes | £16 |
Same chain, same airport, same operator, same evening. The gap is entirely geography: Kensington sits west, so that journey crosses or skirts the whole city before it finds open road. Beckton sits east and starts on it.
M11 Junction 4 Sits 5.6 Miles From the Door
Junction 4 of the M11, where the motorway begins at the North Circular, is 5.6 miles from the hotel entrance. The M25 is within nine miles to the east.
That means a short urban leg and then a straight motorway run, which is why forty-two minutes is realistic rather than optimistic. Most London airport runs lose their minutes in town. This one hardly has a town section.
Which of the Four Airports Beckton Suits
| Airport | From Beckton | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| London City | About a mile and a half | Closest airport to any London hotel |
| Stansted | 33 miles, 42 minutes | Short for a major airport |
| Heathrow | Right across the city | The long one from here |
| Gatwick | South, and over the river | Crossing charge applies |
Beckton is unusually well placed for two of the four and poorly placed for the other two, which is worth knowing when you book the hotel rather than after.
A Gatwick run from here pays a Thames crossing that this journey does not, and a Heathrow run crosses the whole city. Prices by route sit on our Stansted page and across the rest of the airport index.
No Zone Charge, No River Crossing, No Toll
Beckton lies well east of the charging zone, so that eighteen pounds never arises. It also sits north of the Thames, and so does Stansted, so there is no Blackwall or Silvertown crossing and no tunnel charge either.
Compare that with a run south from the same part of London: a journey from E16 down to Gatwick crosses the river every time and pays for it. This one does not.
Taxi Fares From E6: £71 Saloon to £240 Minibus
These are our own fixed prices for this address. The bags column decides more bookings than the passenger column does.
| Vehicle | People | Luggage | Fixed price | Per head |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saloon | 3 | 3 | £71.00 | £23.67 |
| Estate | 4 | 4 | £77.00 | £19.25 |
| Executive | 3 | 2 | £96.00 | £32.00 |
| MPV-5 | 5 | 3 | £87.00 | £17.40 |
| MPV-6 | 5 | 4 | £93.00 | £18.60 |
| MPV-7 | 6 | 5 | £106.00 | £17.67 |
| MPV-8 | 7 | 7 | £126.00 | £18.00 |
| Executive MPV-7 | 8 | 7 | £156.00 | £19.50 |
| 10 Seater | 10 | 9 | £176.00 | £17.60 |
| 12 Seater | 12 | 10 | £196.00 | £16.33 |
| 14 Seater | 14 | 12 | £222.00 | £15.86 |
| 16 Seater | 16 | 14 | £240.00 | £15.00 |
Read the final column before the fare column. A saloon works out near twenty-four pounds a head; a sixteen-seater is fifteen. Top of the list turns out to be the lowest cost per traveller by a clear stretch.
Three Vehicles Carry Fewer Cases Than Passengers
Three seats and three cases in the saloon, which is generous for the class. The MPV-5 seats five but carries only three cases. The Executive seats three and holds two.
Short-haul leisure is what Stansted trades in, and holiday luggage outweighs the business kind, so the boot gives out ahead of the seats. Put cases and heads down as separate figures and the class gets picked at the depot. Class-by-class capacity sits on our fleet page.
Executive Car £96 for Three, MPV £106 for Six
Ninety-six pounds carries three passengers and two bags, at thirty-two a head. A hundred and six carries six passengers and five bags, at under eighteen. On capacity alone the comparison is absurd.
Its moment arrives when the car is half the point — collecting a client, an arrival that has to look a certain way. For every other journey the MPV lines give you more for less, and our chauffeur service sets out where that line falls.

The 33-Mile Route: A13, A406, M11, Exit 8A
Unusually for a London airport run, there is only one sensible route and no orbital alternative to weigh.
| Leg | Road | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Woolwich Manor Way, the A117 | Straight out of the hotel car park |
| 2 | A13 westbound briefly | The only urban section of note |
| 3 | A406 North Circular north | A few miles to the motorway |
| 4 | M11 from Junction 4 | Motorway the rest of the way |
| 5 | Exit at 8A | Slip road feeds the A120 direct |
Five legs, and three of them are motorway or dual carriageway. The single urban stretch is short enough that even a bad morning on the A13 costs minutes rather than a quarter of an hour.
Take Exit 8A for Stansted, Never Exit 8
Nearly every driving guide just writes "Junction 8". Out of London the exit you need is 8A — the later-built slip that pours straight onto the widened A120 and towards the terminal. Exit 8 serves traffic arriving from the Cambridge side.
Overshoot it and the following exit lies well beyond the airport, a fifteen-minute penalty to undo. Drivers who run it weekly never do.
Why a 42-Minute Drive Holds Its Time
On a journey that is mostly motorway, the traffic variable is smaller. A run that crosses central London can swing half an hour either way; this one swings a few minutes outside the worst of the peak.
That predictability is worth something on an early flight, and it is the practical reason a pre-booked car from this address can be timed tightly without gambling.
Beckton DLR Starts at 06:54 — Too Late for Stansted
Beckton DLR station is 0.1 miles from the hotel, a three-minute walk, and it is genuinely the best thing about the location. For a Stansted flight it is also close to irrelevant.
| Time | What is running | Any use for Stansted? |
|---|---|---|
| 03:00 – 03:33 | N551 night bus only | Into town, then nothing onward |
| 03:33 – 06:54 | Effectively nothing | No |
| From about 06:54 | DLR begins | Into town, then two changes |
| Daytime | DLR, buses 101 104 129 474 | Workable with time to spare |
The first two rows are the problem. Stansted's schedule is heavily weighted to early departures, and a seven o'clock flight means leaving E6 around four in the morning. At four in the morning the DLR has not started.
No Direct Train: the DLR Heads Into London First
No train runs from Beckton to Stansted. The DLR carries you into central London, and the Stansted Express leaves from Liverpool Street, which means changes and then an airport train.
That is an hour and a half or more door to door with luggage, against forty-two minutes by road. The routes where rail genuinely beats a car are worked through in our train-or-car comparison; this is not among them.
Take the DLR for London City, Not Stansted
For London City Airport, a mile and a half away, and for ExCeL at 1.3 miles, it is excellent — a few stops and you are there. We would say so rather than pretend otherwise.
For Stansted at four in the morning it cannot help, and that is the whole distinction. Our London City transfers exist for the days when even that short hop needs a car.
Leave E6 at 04:00 for a 07:00 Stansted Flight
Start with the counter, not the departure board. It closes roughly an hour ahead of the aircraft.
| Flight departs | Airside-ready by | Leave Beckton |
|---|---|---|
| 06:00 | 04:00 | 03:00 |
| 07:00 | 05:00 | 04:00 |
| 09:00 | 07:00 | 06:00 — peak building |
| 12:00 | 10:00 | 08:45 |
| 18:00 | 16:00 | 14:45 |
An hour from door to terminal on a forty-two minute drive is a comfortable margin rather than a tight one. The short journey is the luxury here: the buffer sits in the road, not in the crossing.
A 5am Stansted Queue Is Not the Quiet One
Short-haul departures stack up before dawn here, so the five a.m. queue is nothing like the empty hall people picture. Err towards the front of any window you are given.
There is also a transit shuttle out to the satellite gates once you are through, another five or ten minutes almost no one budgets for. Coming the other way, a late landing simply re-times the pickup, which our late-arrivals guide explains.
The Only Charge: £10 at the Stansted Kerb
With no zone charge and no crossing, the terminal forecourt is the only additional cost — and it changed in 2026.
| Charge | |
|---|---|
| Up to 15 minutes | £10, having been £7 until 19 March 2026 |
| 15 to 30 minutes | £28 |
| How it is enforced | Number plate cameras |
| Payment deadline | Online, by close of the next day |
| If you miss it | £100 penalty notice |
The last two rows are where a modest charge becomes an expensive one. A quarter-hour goes fast on a busy kerb, and the deadline slips the mind once you are somewhere else entirely.
60 Minutes Free in Mid Stay, Against £10 at the Kerb
For a collection rather than a drop-off, Mid Stay hands you a free hour, with a brief shuttle across to the terminal. Against a forecourt charging by the quarter hour, the comparison stops being close the moment a flight slips.
It is the reason a booked driver waiting on a driver meeting a held-up flight tends to wait in Mid Stay instead of looping the terminal roads. Charges at every UK airport are compared in our kerbside fees guide.
The £10 Levy Belongs Inside the Quoted Fare
On a pre-booked transfer those ten pounds belong inside the figure you signed off, not lurking at the barrier. Ours does. It is worth one question of anybody else, because a fare ten pounds lower that adds the levy afterwards is not actually lower.
Everything else a total ought to hold appears in our fare breakdown.
Where the Taxi Waits on Woolwich Manor Way
Straightforward, which is not something every London hotel can claim.
The entrance sits on Woolwich Manor Way beside the Winsor House, with the approach running from the A13 onto the A117 and the hotel on the left after the first roundabout. One entrance, one forecourt, no confusion about which side of the street.
| Detail | |

| Address | 1 Woolwich Manor Way, E6 5NT |
| Check-out | Midday |
| Parking | On site, chargeable, first-come |
| On site | Winsor House Brewers Fayre |
| Nearest DLR | Beckton, 3-minute walk |
A twelve o'clock check-out is unusually late for London and handy when the flight sits after lunch. Parking is chargeable and cannot be reserved, which matters if you were planning to drive and leave a car.
Only a Black Cab Can Be Flagged Down in London
A private hire car may not take a fare that was never booked ahead. The rule is written into licensing, not into hotel policy, and it applies at every address in London.
If someone walks up outside with an unbadged car and an offer, they are outside the law whatever they wave at you. A ten-second check list lives in our driver verification guide.
Step-Free Travel to Stansted From E6
| Position | |
|---|---|
| Beckton DLR | Step-free, and the network is largely level-access |
| Onward from central London | Interchanges are not uniformly step-free |
| Before 06:54 | Nothing accessible running at all |
| Accessible vehicle | Asked for on the reservation, not on the day |
The DLR is the one bright spot here: level access throughout and a three-minute approach from the hotel. It is genuinely good, and for London City Airport it is the obvious answer.
For Stansted the problem returns at the far end of that journey, and vanishes altogether ahead of about seven, when no accessible service is moving. A wheelchair-capable car is set aside at base, never taken off a rank, so the ask belongs on the reservation rather than arrive with you.
Why Parking a Car at Stansted Costs More
Park at Stansted for seven days and the bill beats two transfers on nearly any sum you care to do, and the hotel's own parking is chargeable and unreservable on top.
Worth it if the car earns its keep around London while you are here. On a straight out-and-back it almost never does, and a quote each way settles it in a minute.
