Per-head cost from Excel

One passenger pays the full £38. Two sharing come to £19 each, four to £9.50. Six in the MPV6 works out at £8.17 a head, and eight in the minibus at £11. From four delegates upward with bags, the group booking generally lands below DLR once luggage handling is counted.

No CCZ on any E16 booking

Excel London sits outside the Congestion Charge Zone, so no charge applies at any hour on any day of the week. The figure confirmed when you book is the figure settled at the kerb — nothing added for the zone, nothing added for the airport barrier.

Journey time by event status

Ordinary days run 5–10 minutes. Move-in and teardown at World Travel Market, DSEI or Grand Designs push that to 15–20 with venue exit queues. Before 06:00 the run drops to 5–7 minutes; after 19:00, 5–8.

Taxi from Excel Centre / ICC to London City Airport

E16 1XL — From £38

The Excel Centre itself — the main exhibition halls, ICC London and the West and East entrances on Western Gateway and Eastern Gateway. At 1.5 miles from London City Airport, Excel is the closest major venue to any London airport. A taxi from the West Entrance to LCY terminal takes 5–8 minutes off-peak via Royal Albert Way. During DSEI or World Travel Market, build in an extra 10 minutes for venue exit queues.

Taxi from Custom House to London City Airport

E16 3QD — From £39

Custom House E16 is the DLR station immediately adjacent to Excel London, serving the northern side of the exhibition centre and the cluster of hotels along Freemasons Road. The area generates heavy taxi demand when early-morning LCY flights depart before DLR service begins at 05:30. A pre-booked taxi from Custom House covers 1.8 miles in 6–10 minutes off-peak.

Taxi from Royal Docks / Pontoon Dock to London City Airport

E16 1DR — From £40

Royal Docks E16 and Pontoon Dock cover the waterfront development east of Excel — Pontoon Dock DLR station, the Travelodge and Premier Inn cluster and the residential blocks along Royal Wharf. At 2 miles from London City Airport the run takes 7–12 minutes. This area holds the overflow accommodation when the four Excel hotels sell out during a major show.

Taxi from Silvertown / Thameside to London City Airport

E16 2EZ — From £41

At 2.2 miles from LCY a taxi from Silvertown reaches the terminal in 7–12 minutes.

Canning Town E16 is the Jubilee line and DLR interchange hub immediately north of Excel, serving both the exhibition centre and the wider Newham area. Taxi from North Woolwich / Albert Dock to London City Airport

E16 2EX — From £43

Excel to LCY — London’s Shortest Airport Taxi

Excel London to London City Airport runs 1.5–2 miles along Royal Albert Way. No airport taxi in the capital is shorter. Off-peak from Excel E16: 5–10 minutes. No CCZ on the route. LCY £8 pre-settled.

The standard run heads east along Royal Albert Way straight to the terminal. At a mile and a half it is the shortest airport taxi from any major London venue. When Western Gateway backs up on an event morning, drivers take the Eastern Gateway exit instead.
E16 sits outside the Congestion Charge Zone
The boundary stops well west of here. Excel and the six surrounding areas — every E16 and E6 postcode listed above — sit clear of it, which means nothing is added at any time of day or night.
LCY £8 ANPR — cleared before the driver leaves Excel
London City introduced an £8 forecourt levy on 6 January 2026, with £1 a minute after the first five and payment due by midnight the following day. We settle it through the operator account before your driver pulls away from the Excel entrance, so there is nothing waiting for you at the barrier.

Excel London — the closest venue to LCY

Excel London on Royal Victoria Dock stands a mile and a half from London City Airport — no other major London exhibition venue is closer to any airport. That proximity is why LCY becomes the natural choice for international delegates flying in: DSEI, World Travel Market, BETT, London Book Fair, Grand Designs Live and MCM Comic Con all draw heavy LCY arrivals.

For exhibitors setting up or breaking down, the run is 5–10 minutes door to terminal. Put that against Canary Wharf at 3.5 miles or the City at 7 and the gap is obvious. Excel has the single shortest taxi run to a London airport of any major business venue.

Event-day demand at Excel

Opening morning of World Travel Market, or DSEI move-in day, sends demand from the Excel hotels through the roof before 06:00. Everyone wants the same slot. Reserving the evening before locks the vehicle in before that queue forms.

Which airlines Excel delegates fly

London City runs Edinburgh on BA CityFlyer roughly hourly, plus Amsterdam with KLM and BA, Dublin on Aer Lingus, Zurich with SWISS, Frankfurt on Lufthansa and Paris CDG with Air France. Delegates landing from those European capitals reach Excel in 5–10 minutes.

What LCY looks like on the day

One terminal, one cluster of security lanes, one arrivals exit. Security clears in 10–20 minutes outside peak. Leave Excel at 17:00 after teardown and you are at the terminal by 17:10 — twenty minutes in hand before an 18:00 gate closes.

Best way to get from Excel London to LCY

It comes down to how many of you there are, what you are carrying and when you leave. Travelling alone after 05:30 with hand luggage only, the DLR from Custom House is hard to beat — one stop, three minutes, a couple of pounds. Three or four of you with cases, or anything departing before 05:30, and the pre-booked taxi takes over. Split four ways, £38 is £9.50 a head, which lands in the same territory as four DLR fares while adding door-to-terminal service.

On DSEI and World Travel Market opening days, Excel hotel to LCY taxis before 06:30 are in high demand. Book the evening before to secure driver allocation and vehicle type.
Booking

How to Book a Taxi from Excel London to London City Airport

1
Enter your Excel address or hotel name
Head to the booking page and type Excel Centre E16 1XL, the name of your hotel — Aloft, DoubleTree, Moxy or Ibis Styles — or the specific hall entrance you will be standing at: West, East, or ICC Capital Hall. ICC London is covered at the same rate. The confirmed figure appears straight away with the airport levy already inside it.
2
Pick a vehicle and add your flight number
Saloon for the standard run, estate when you are carrying stand materials, MPV for a delegation, executive for a client-facing pickup. Adding the LCY flight number switches on tracking from the origin airport, so a delayed Edinburgh CityFlyer or Amsterdam KLM inbound shifts the driver’s timing without you doing anything. Corporate accounts run executive on standing allocation.
3
Driver name arrives by text before midnight
The evening before, a message lands with the driver’s name, the vehicle plate and a direct mobile number. They come to the entrance you named or the hotel lobby door. The airport levy is already cleared. Coming the other way, the driver waits in the single arrivals hall with your name, holding for forty-five minutes from touchdown.
What Every Excel Booking Includes

Fixed Fare, No CCZ, LCY £8 Cleared — Every E16 Address

The price does not move
World Travel Market Monday, DSEI teardown Friday, a cold January BETT morning — the figure agreed at booking is the figure on the invoice. No event premium, no surge multiplier, no meter ticking in traffic.
Zero congestion charge exposure
A West End or City pickup carries the zone charge on top. From E16 there is nothing to carry — the whole route sits outside the boundary, whichever of the seven areas you start from.
Forty-five minutes of arrivals waiting
Measured from wheels down, not from the scheduled time. Delegates arriving from Edinburgh or Amsterdam walk out of customs to a driver already standing there with a name card. Excel is 5–10 minutes away.
Accounts for the regulars
Stand builders, event management firms and trade associations working several Excel shows a year run a monthly account: one invoice, one contact, standing vehicle allocation for the dates you already know about.

Corporate Travel

Corporate Taxi Accounts — Excel Events & Exhibition Teams

Exhibition contractors, event management companies and trade association teams attending Excel events throughout the year use Gatwick Taxi Transfer corporate accounts for consistent, invoiced transport to LCY.

One invoice for the whole show
Every journey across a multi-day event lands on a single statement — date, vehicle, passenger, fare, one line each. Nobody chases individual delegates for crumpled receipts at the end of the week.
The same driver, show after show
Contractors coming back for DSEI every two years or World Travel Market each November get standing instructions on file: same driver where possible, same vehicle class, same entrance sequence. No re-briefing from scratch.
Estates held back for teardown
Account holders get priority on estate allocation for breakdown days, when everyone is leaving with display panels and sample cases at once. Reserved the night before rather than fought over on the morning.
Six or eight in one vehicle
A delegation of six travels in one MPV at £49; eight fit the minibus at £88. One journey, one pickup point, one VAT receipt — simpler to reconcile and cheaper than coordinating four separate cabs from the same entrance.
Speakers and VIPs arriving
International speakers landing at LCY for an Excel event are met in arrivals with a name card and at the venue within ten minutes. No other London airport-to-venue pairing comes close on arrival-to-registration time.
Rate holds across the calendar
A figure quoted in July is the figure invoiced in November. No show-week adjustment, no peak-day loading. Travel teams can pre-approve the rate company-wide and leave it alone.

Return from LCY

Return Taxi from London City Airport to Excel — from £38

Same fixed fare both directions. Driver in the single arrivals hall with a name card. Forty-five minutes from actual touchdown. Built for incoming delegates and exhibitors.

Tracking starts at the far end

The moment your aircraft pushes back at its origin, the flight is on our board. A late KLM out of Amsterdam or a slow BA CityFlyer from Edinburgh is absorbed automatically — the driver is in position before you park.

One terminal, one exit

London City has a single arrivals concourse, which removes the usual guessing game. Your driver stands just beyond the gate with a card. A twenty-minute hold-up at the belt still leaves the full waiting window intact.

At the venue inside ten minutes

Royal Albert Way runs straight back to any Excel entrance or hotel. A delegate landing for a conference can be at the registration desk under twenty minutes from wheels-down, bags included.

Yes — Custom House DLR (adjacent to Excel West Entrance) to London City Airport DLR: one stop eastbound, approximately 3 minutes, £1.70–£3.50 depending on Oyster. DLR runs from 05:30. For departures before 05:30, exhibition equipment, multiple bags or groups of 4+, a pre-booked taxi at £38 from Excel is often the better option: door-to-terminal, no platform steps, no luggage restrictions.
No. Excel London (E16) is outside the Congestion Charge Zone. The route from Excel to London City Airport via Royal Albert Way does not enter the CCZ at any point. No CCZ charge applies on any Excel to LCY booking — the confirmed fare at booking is the all-in total.
LCY check-in opens 06:30 weekdays. For a 07:00 departure: leave Excel E16 by 06:10, Canning Town by 06:05, Beckton by 06:00. Security at LCY takes 10–20 minutes off-peak. Pre-booked taxi available from 03:00 — the only ground option before DLR starts at 05:30.
Yes — same confirmed fare both directions. LCY to Excel E16 from £38. Driver in LCY single arrivals hall with name card. Forty-five minutes of waiting from actual touchdown. LCY £8 pre-settled. Ideal for incoming delegates arriving at LCY for Excel events.
Specify in the booking notes: West Entrance (Western Gateway), East Entrance (Eastern Gateway), ICC Capital Hall entrance, or hotel name (Aloft London Excel, DoubleTree by Hilton, Moxy London Excel, Ibis Styles London Excel). Driver confirms the exact pickup point by text the evening before departure.
Group taxi from Excel: MPV6 (6 pax) from £49 — £8.17 per head. MPV7 (7 pax) from £51. 8-seat minibus from £88. For exhibition crews and conference delegations, the group taxi undercuts individual bookings and produces one invoice. One driver, one pickup, one VAT receipt.
Excel London (E16 1XL) to London City Airport (E16 2PX) is 1.5 miles by road via Royal Albert Way — the shortest airport-to-exhibition-centre distance in London. Off-peak taxi: 5–10 minutes. LCY is the closest airport to any major London venue.
Yes — the £8 ANPR forecourt levy at London City Airport applies to all private hire vehicles. Gatwick Taxi Transfer settles this through the operator account before the driver leaves Excel. The £38 confirmed at booking is the total — nothing extra at the terminal barrier.
DLR is faster in transit time (3 minutes, one stop). But a taxi wins when: it is before 05:30, you have exhibition equipment or multiple bags, you need a specific Excel entrance, or you are a group of 4+ where £38÷4 = £9.50 per head matches DLR cost with door-to-terminal service added.
Yes, subject to fleet availability in the E16 zone. Same-day bookings are accepted up to 60 minutes before pickup, and WhatsApp is the fastest channel for short-notice Excel requests — confirmation usually returns within a few minutes. On DSEI, World Travel Market and MCM Comic Con days the early-morning slots fill fast, so booking the evening before is strongly recommended for any departure before 07:00.
Yes — executive Mercedes E-Class or V-Class from Excel E16 from £66. Leather interior, privacy glass, chilled water. Ideal for exhibitors, conference speakers and VIP delegates. Named pickup at Excel hotel entrance or specific exhibition hall. VAT receipt automatic.
All Excel hotels covered to LCY: Aloft London Excel, DoubleTree by Hilton London Excel, Moxy London Excel and Ibis Styles London Excel — each at the same £38 saloon fare. Specify the hotel name at booking; the driver is confirmed for that hotel entrance the evening before.
Local Knowledge

Excel to LCY — What Event Organisers & Regulars Know

Why this is the cheapest LCY run in London

Distance decides it. No other major exhibition or conference venue in London sits a mile and a half from an airport. Canary Wharf is 3.5 miles at £42, Docklands 3 miles at £42, Shoreditch 6.5 miles at £43. Excel starts lower because the journey is shorter, not because anything is being cut.

Teardown is the pinch point, not opening day

Breakdown at Excel usually wraps mid-afternoon into evening, and everybody with a Friday-night Edinburgh, Amsterdam or Zurich flight calls for a car in the same two-hour window — 16:00 to 18:00 on the closing day. Booking the previous evening, or the week before for DSEI and World Travel Market, gets you allocated before that rush.

Which door each Excel hotel uses

Aloft London Excel takes its main entrance on Western Gateway. DoubleTree by Hilton is also on Western Gateway, closer to Excel West. Moxy sits on the same side. Ibis Styles is round on Festoon Way, which catches people out. Name the hotel at checkout and the driver has the right door on file the night before — no ringing reception, no standing on the wrong side of the building.

Canning Town, the budget bed option

Crew and contractors tend to stay north of the venue where rooms cost less than the waterfront. Canning Town is a Jubilee and DLR interchange, but neither is running for the earliest LCY departures. At 2.5 miles and £42 the pre-booked car is the only ground option before 05:30 from these addresses.

Beckton sits at the outer edge

North of the docks on the A13, Beckton picks up build crew and contractors staying near the DLR terminus. It is the furthest of the seven areas at 4.2 miles, though that still means 12–18 minutes to the terminal for £46. Same story as Canning Town before dawn: no rail, so the booked car is it.

How payment and VAT work

Card at the time of booking — Visa, Mastercard or Amex. The VAT invoice emails itself after the journey completes and drops cleanly into Concur, SAP or whatever expense system you run. Account holders get one consolidated monthly statement instead. Everything is in sterling; there is no card reader in the vehicle and no cash needed.
